Hi there!

We have a room available RIGHT NOW in our great Victorian house in the Haight. We
are looking for someone who is (a)fantastic and (b)looking to move in--or at least
willing to pay rent--right away, at the latest 9/1. PLEASE ONLY REPLY IF YOU WOULD
BE WILLING TO START PAYING RENT AND GIVE A DEPOSIT RIGHT AWAY! If it seems like you
could be a good match, I'd love to invite you to our open house tomorrow evening.

Before saying anything else about how amazing this space is, though, I'll mention
three things that might save you some time in considering our place:

1. We have a vegetarian policy in the house. Only one of us is actually veg (me: I'm
vegan), but I really don't want meat in the house, and this is pretty important to
me. So, while you can obviously eat anything you want outside the house, please no
meat in the house.

2. I have a supersweet dog (a Black Lab mix) who is elderly, and, after 15 years of
being completely housebroken, she does have occasional accidents. I do a very
thorough job of cleaning up, but I want you to know that ahead of time in case it
would drive you crazy. I'd like the person who moves in to not only be understanding
of this but also ideally be a dog lover who would be happy giving my girl some
occasional gentle belly rubs, if she's up for it.

3. Our landlord (who is great) needs a credit report for anyone moving in. Your credit doesn't have
to be great, but it can't be terrible. If you don't have a job, she'll need some sort of proof that you have money to pay rent.

OK, if you're still reading, now to the good stuff!

THE HOUSE: We have a 2-story, 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house, with 2 rooms upstairs and
2 down. We have laundry in the house (no quarters necessary!), a dishwasher, a
fireplace, all wood floors, high ceilings, lots of light. We have a giant living
room and an eat-in kitchen, as well as a cute shared backyard-sort-of space.

THE ROOM: The room is small but very cute, with bay windows, tons of light, high
ceilings, and a cozy feel. The closet is very small, though it's been fine for me
for the past 5 years. If you have a ton of stuff, this room is not for you, but, as
I said, I lived in it for 5 years and I loved it.

LOCATION: We are in the "Middle Haight," meaning the area in between the stores and
bars and restaurants in the Upper and Lower Haight, so our house is on a relatively
quiet residential street but close to lots of things. We are also a nice walk to the
Castro or inner Mission. We are near lots of public transit. The 6, 7, 71, 24, 33,
and 43 all stop within a few blocks, and in fact the 6, 7, and 71 (which go
downtown) all stop on our block. There is easy parking, believe it or not, during
the day; tough at night. I bike everywhere, and while there are a couple hills
coming from the east, it's the best way to get around the city (in my opinion), and
the Panhandle is right here. We are also very near some great parks; Buena Vista
Park is right across the street, and we're 2 blocks from the Panhandle and about a
10 minute walk to Duboce Park, Alamo Square, and Golden Gate Parl (at Stanyan).
OTHER STUFF TO KNOW: Utilities are not included, but they don't add up to much: about $10/person/month for DSL and cable, and PGE&E varies from $10-30 or so /person/month. The lease is month to month at this point, so there's no year-long commitment, but you would need to give 30 days' notice before moving out.
US: We are 3 women ages 26-31. I have lived here for 7
years, and I love this house. My other two housemates are actually planning on
moving in the coming months, so we can create a new group of people that will be a
great fit for the house. I am/we all are conscious about social and environmental
issues and are pursuing work consistent with that. One of my housemates is in law
school at New College (public interest), while the other completed a master's in
environmental ed. I just finished a teaching credential but, after years of
nonprofit work, I will be working on a ballot initiative to help animals this year.
We like yoga/movement (judo!), music, the outdoors, traveling, food, board games,
spending time with friends, etc. We are all interested in politics (very
progressive) and what is going on in the world. I ride my bike a lot and love to be
out at the park with my dog.

This past year, my housemates and I were all very busy and didn't spend much time
together at home, unfortunately. I would like to fill the house with friends who
have a feeling of community in the house, who enjoy cooking with and for each other,
and who like to hang out together, but who also have their own lives and interests.
Someone who is not just looking for a room in a house but would be interested in
more of a community feel, even though we all have busy schedules, would be ideal for
this room. Even better if you like to cook vegan food for other people!

YOU: Are an individual that doesn't fit into a category! However, I'd like you to be:

-Easy to get along with, positive attitude, fun, laidback, easy on the drama

-not a total slob (willing to clean up after yourself and be pro-active--i.e.,
taking the garbage out if you see it needs to get taken out, etc.); not a neat freak either

-interested in cooking occasional meals together or otherwise being social in the house

-not going to be spending lots of time in front of the TV

-are up to something more than just trying to make a lot of money and have a good time.

Please don't respond if you envision yourself spending most of your awake time at
home in your room with the door closed, or if you would plan to have a boyfriend or
girlfriend sleep over more than, say, 2 nights per week. (There are no rules about
this or anything--just a preference.)

I'm looking to fill this room asap, as I am paying rent on it to sit empty (we had
someone lined up to move in, but that fell through), so please reply asap, and,
again, please only reply if you'd be willing to move in/pay rent this week.

Oh, we are open to having a cat and a 2nd dog IF the dog is extremely good with
other dogs and very mellow. My dog is not interested in being social with other dogs
(she's old), so if your dog is not very high energy and would be content to do
his/her own thing and leave my dog to do her own thing (sleep, mostly), it could
work. She's also too old to defend herself against a dog that could be even remotely
aggressive, so please keep that in mind.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
